About Me:

J.R. (John) Rogers grew up primarily in Paris, but also in Antwerp and Kinshasa, and was launched professionally with a degree in French Literature and not a lot of ideas about what to do with it except to teach. But he knew he always wanted to write. Over the years, as he explored one career path after another – the federal government, consulting and aircraft manufacturing – he wrote dozens of short stories. His influences then were tales written by the likes of Irwin Shaw, Raymond Carver and William Trevor. He also began several novels and even found time to take a few writing classes at UC Irvine Extension. Fiction-wise, he found it difficult to not to be fascinated by the novels of classic spy writers such as Eric Ambler, and John Le Carre, for instance, but his interests in the writers of the genre were all over the board. He didn’t begin writing novels seriously until he was in his 50s when he decided if he was going to begin then the present seemed as good a time as any. Besides his two novels, he’s hard at work on a third, a story of espionage and intrigue set during the Cold War in an unusual and quiet South American capital where the KGB and MI-6 confront one another. It is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2012. The author also continue to write short stories and plans to publish a collection of his favorites. He lives in Orange County, southern California.
