      Chinese stocks down 2.94% in the morning sessionPublished: 23 Dec 2008 01:37:00 PSTDec. 23, 2008 (China Knowledge) – Chinese stocks ended lower in the morning trading session on Tuesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index losing 2.94%, on the central bank’s cut on loan and deposit rates by 0.27%.The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A shares and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, lost 58.48 points to close at 1929.28 points in the morning session.The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange dropped 3.50% or 255.12 points to stand at 7,040 points.Market heavy weight PetroChina<601857><857><PTR>, the nation’s top oil producer, lost 2.56% to close at RMB 10.64, while Asia’s largest oil refiner Sinopec<600028><386><SNP> dropped 4.04% to RMB 7.37.The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC)<601398><1398>, the largest of China’s Big Four state-owned banks by market value, fell 1.85% to close at RMB 3.71. While another Big Four bank, China Construction Bank (CCB)<601939><939> also dropped 1.72% to close at RMB 4.01.China Life Insurance Co<601628><2628><LFC>, the country’s largest life insurance company, edged down 3.10% to RMB 19.69, while Ping An Insurance (Group) Co<601318><2318>, China’s second-largest insurer, lost 4.11% to RMB 27.55.Haitong Securities Co Ltd<600837> shrank 4.99% to close at RMB 7.99. CITIC Securities Co. Ltd<600030>, the country’s most profitable brokerage, declined 4.95% to RMB 19.98. Changjiang Securities Co. Ltd<000783> went down 6.73% to close at RMB 9.85. Guoyuan Securities Co Ltd<000728> lost 7.74% to close at RMB 12.40.
